VoidRocks
Every rock you break becomes two smaller ones. Clear the screen and the next wave arrives with more of them, while the saucers come hunting.
VoidRocks is a tribute to Asteroids, the 1979 arcade shooter, rebuilt as a pixel-art cabinet you play in your browser.
How it plays
- Large rocks split into medium ones, medium into small. They're worth 20, 50 and 100 points.
- The large saucer fires at random and is worth 200. The small one aims, gets more accurate as your score climbs, and is worth 1,000.
- Hyperspace drops you somewhere random on the screen. 15% of the time you don't come back.
- An extra ship every 10,000 points.
- Two players take turns, the way they would at a real cabinet.
- A top-ten table to put your initials on.
- Leave it alone and it plays itself in attract mode.
Rules
Classic plays it straight. Assisted adds three things: hold fire to keep shooting, two seconds of protection after you respawn, and no waiting forever for a clear centre, because after two seconds it finds you another spot. Pick one on the start screen, or press F3.
Controls
- A / D or ← / →: turn
- W or ↑: thrust
- Space: fire
- Shift: hyperspace
- 1 / 2: start a one- or two-player game
- P or Esc: pause
- M: mute
- F2: options (volume, screen shake, flashing)
- F3: switch rules
Comfort
Screen shake and flashing can both be turned off in Options (F2).
Good to know
- Sound starts after your first key press. Browsers don't let a page play audio before that.
- It's made for a keyboard. Touch controls are in, but they haven't been tried on phones yet.
